Ship Salvage
Prantik Marine Services Ltd. (Prantik) is a local salvage company, based in Chittagong, having ALLIANCE partnership with SMIT SALVAGE B.V. of Holland, probably the no.1 Salvage Company in the world. Prantik is an enlisted salver of "The Salvage Association", Singapore, enlisted salvage contractor of Mongla Port Authority and one of the reputed salvers of Chittagong Port Authority.
Prantik Marine has expanded their activities into the field of Salvage Activities in late 2000. In the 1st half of 2001, we have successfully Salvaged a fire struck sunken vessel, German registered and built, named M.V.SOUTHERN QUEEN from jetty no.1 of Chittagong port using logistic supports sourced locally. The vessel was declared a CTL (constructive total loss) by its owner and hull underwriters. The vessels P & I club awarded the salvage contract to prantik. She was carrying copra in bags. The vessel's DWT was 3932 MT & LOA 86.2 meters. She was successfully removed from jetty no.1 of Chittagong Port on 24th April 2001 and re-floated as single piece on 12th of May, 2001.
4 nos. of pontoon barges with total reserved buoyancy of 2300 T were used for lifting of the vessel exploiting the reserve buoyancy of the barges and the difference of water level of river karnafully during tide change. 8 nos. of tunnel were dug to pass 3 inch diameter steel core wire having breaking load of 270T underneath the hull to strap the vessel with the barges. After lifting and removal from jetty no.1, she was re-floated upon pumping out the waters from her engine room, cargo hold, tanks etc. 12 pumps with a total capacity of 1500MT/hr were used. 50 workers at various capacity were engaged for the project which took little more than 3 month to complete. This was the perhaps biggest salvage operation of its kind ever carried out in Bangladesh waters by a local salvage company.
